Tattoo Removal

People are often surprised to learn that Dr. Gerstle is able to remove tattoos. We understand that as time passes, people grow and change. If you had a tattoo placed but no longer desire to have it on your body, Dr. Gerstle can help. Some people try laser therapy, which only fades the ink. Some people visit a tattoo artist to change the tattoo into something different. If you want the tattoo completely removed, call Dr. Gerstle at (859) 279-2111 to discuss your options or fill out a consultation request.

Depending on the size of the artwork to be removed, Dr. Gerstle can suggest one or a series of excisions that will replace the unwanted tattoo with a small, barely discernible scar.

Tattoo Removal Methods

There are several methods available to remove tattoos or greatly reduce a tattoo’s visibility.

Laser Tattoo Removal

This increasingly popular therapy reduces the visibility of the tattoo with each treatment. Over a series of treatments, most tattoos can be effectively considered removed.

Laser tattoo removal works by using a specific frequency of energy to disrupt and destroy ink pigments. Each color requires a different frequency. A complex tattoo with a variety of colors will take more treatments to remove all the pigments. The intensity of the ink and overall size of the tattoo also determines the number of treatments required to reach most patients’ goal of complete removal.

Dermabrasion Tattoo Removal

In some cases, dermabrasion may be the preferred method for tattoo removal. Like a exfoliation, the skin containing the ink pigments is abraded in successive treatments until the ink is removed and new, healthy skin is left.

Excision Tattoo Removal

Depending on the size of the artwork to be removed, Dr. Gerstle may suggest one or a series of excisions that will replace the unwanted tattoo with a small, barely discernible scar.
