Women and men who are seeking a more enhanced profile are increasingly requesting what is commonly known as the “Butt Lift.” There are several reasons that buttock enhancement is becoming more popular. One reason is that people were not born with the fullness they desire in their bottom. Another reason is that people are dissatisfied with buttocks that have lost fullness and volume over time because of aging or weight loss. Dr. Gerstle can help you achieve the fuller look you desire by taking areas of fat and replacing them into buttocks that need more volume.
Lifting sagging buttocks
Sculpting a more sensual body profile
Creating a more rounded, prominent appearance
If you feel you may be a candidate for buttock enhancement, you and Dr. Gerstle will have a detailed consultation where you discuss your medical history, physical exam, and cosmetic goals. One way we try to best understand these goals and illustrate how Dr. Gerstle may be able to meet them is with our state-of-the-art imaging system called “Mirror Imaging.” Here we take digital images of the area to be treated and digitally enhance them to show Dr. Gerstle what you are looking to achieve and what your new appearance should look like. This is a great tool to help communicate to one another most effectively. Once you have established your cosmetic goals, Dr. Gerstle will suggest how to help you achieve them. After you and Dr. Gerstle have established a surgical plan you are both happy with, you will have your procedure done at one of our outpatient surgery centers under general anesthesia. The procedure itself usually takes under two hours.
After you are safely under anesthesia, Dr. Gerstle will first sculpt the areas around the buttocks by placing small incisions usually along the back, stomach or thighs to perform liposuction. This is how Dr. Gerstle will obtain the fat needed to augment the buttock. An added benefit is that the contours of the buttock are further improved by making the surrounding areas now smaller from the liposuction performed. The fat suctioned from those areas will be skillfully treated to then be re-injected into the buttock, restoring fullness and volume. Once the procedure is complete, you will spend a few hours in the recovery area and return home. You will follow up with Dr. Gerstle within a few days and schedule any further appointments. Of course, Dr. Gerstle is always available by cell phone or email in between office visits. We want to make sure you are comfortable with every step in the process.
What is the recovery like after Buttock Enhancement?
Dr. Gerstle recommends that you do not sit on your buttocks for three weeks. While we recognize that this is a difficult instruction to follow, it is the best way to ensure the new fat grafts settles properly and have the most long term results. You will also have to wear a compression garment 24 hours a day for two weeks. Most patients return to work within a week but usually have to make some modifications with sitting until the three week period is complete.
Is buttock enhancement painful?
No surgery comes without some element of discomfort. Most of the pain will come from the areas where you underwent the liposuction, as there will be some expected swelling and bruising for a few weeks which can be uncomfortable. There will also be some expected swelling and bruising of the buttock area but you will receive pain medication that will decrease the discomfort significantly. The healing process is a slow and gradual one but once it is complete, most patients are very satisfied with their new contours.
What happens if I lose weight?
As long as your fat grafts to your buttocks have “taken” or healed into your buttocks well, your weight loss should not affect your buttock enhancement. If anything, you will have smaller areas surrounding your buttocks which will only further enhance your new sculpted shape.
