There are multiple reasons a woman may choose to undergo labiaplasty. After childbirth, this area can become stretched and misshapen. Other women can be very large from genetic reasons. This can cause problems with ladies’ self-confidence in swimwear, in clothing, and in maintaining a healthy sex life. Excess labial tissue can not only be an issue with confidence, but also can cause intercourse to be painful. If this sounds like you, Dr. Gerstle can help by performing a labiaplasty.

Reshaping the contours of the labia to enhance appearance
Making sexual intercourse and certain athletic activities (biking, horseback riding) more enjoyable.
First, you and Dr. Gerstle will have a detailed consultation where you will discuss your medical history, physical exam and cosmetic goals. You should share with him whether or not the excess labial tissue is causing you pain or irritation, and tell exactly where. Once you and Dr. Gerstle establish a surgical plan you are comfortable with, you will have the procedure in our private surgical suite under local anesthesia. If you feel that you will need heavier sedation or a general anesthetic, please discuss this with Dr. Gerstle as having the procedure performed at the outpatient surgery center with anesthesiologists will affect the cost. The procedure takes less than an hour to complete, and most patients leave the office surgical suite soon afterwards. You may feel some mild discomfort and swelling for the first week or two after the procedure, but will be able to return to work within a few days. Dr. Gerstle recommends avoiding sexual activity, vigorous exercise, tub baths and swimming for four to six weeks after the surgery.
Will I still be able to have natural childbirth?
Yes. Labiaplasty will not affect future deliveries.
