Everything You Need To Know About Jawline Contouring

It doesn’t matter who you are; your facial appearance is important to you. It’s one of the first things people see and it can help you to make a great first impression. If you are unsatisfied with the appearance of your jawline or chin, several procedures will help you achieve the look you desire. We offer jawline contouring, jaw enhancement, fillers and other techniques to bring out the best you.

Definition & Overview

Both men and women benefit from the help of injectable cosmetic treatments and jawline contouring. Whether the jawline is too large or not prominent enough, there are simple solutions that can alter the shape. From jawline contouring to jaw enhancement and fillers, we offer the techniques required to achieve the perfect facial look.

Men desire straight lines and angles that enhance the bone structure, while women tend to look their best with gentle curves that feminize the face. Both of these situations are achieved with some simple jawline contouring solutions.

Who Should Consider a Jaw Contouring

Everyone desires a youthful look and defined facial structure. However, age causes a loss of collagen that changes the jaw bone mass and alters the angle. This collagen loss can lead to a weak and jowly jawline.

It’s also possible to have an overdeveloped face as a result of TMJ. Patients that clench or grind their teeth often need help with the jawline appearance.

Whether you want a square-shaped or V-shaped jawline or are simply seeking a smooth and flawless jawline, we have the expertise you need. Through the use of both surgical and non-surgical procedures, we can help you achieve your goals.

Not only will you achieve the youthful look you crave, but there are other benefits of jaw contouring.

  • Reduce sagging skin
  • Strengthen the skin
  • Uplift the chin
  • Reverse the signs of aging
  • Boost confidence

Jawline and Facial Harmony

To achieve facial harmony, the features must be in proportion with one another. The cheeks, nose and chin must be the right size and projection for the bigger picture. If you have a deficient chin, your cheeks and nose are going to appear larger naturally. That’s why it’s not wise to augment the cheeks if the jawline is inadequate because it will only lead to a more substantial imbalance.

We always advise looking at the chin and jaw first before altering the cheeks or nose. It’s the ideal way to create harmony of the face and restore balance.

How Does Non-Surgical Jawline Enhancement Work?

We offer several jaw augmentation procedures, but many people qualify for non-surgical treatment. If we can use injectable fillers to sculpt your jaw contours, the process takes just minutes to complete. First, we map out the area to determine where the filler needs to go. Then, we inject a small amount of the filler into the jawline points and the chin to balance the inconsistencies. We can also perform this procedure to smooth out sharp contours or increase the jawline size. Because the non-surgical procedure is done with a fine needle, you shouldn’t feel pain. Plus, we use a topical anesthetic prior to the treatment to ensure your comfort.

Non-Surgical Chin Augmentation

We can also use non-surgical chin augmentation to correct a multitude of concerns. Whether you are struggling with a double chin or you need chin augmentation filler, we have solutions available to you. Without inserting an implant into the chin, you avoid all the basic risks of surgery. Our fillers also carry very little chance of infection and there’s no movement after the procedure. After you receive the chin filler, all that’s left is the beautiful appearance you desire.

What are the Expected Results?

The benefits of getting jawline fillers, jaw augmentation and non-surgical chin augmentation are endless. Here are just a few of the results you can expect.

  • Well-shaped features
  • Proportionate chin compared to the cheeks and nose
  • Tighter, firmer skin
  • Younger looking facial features

In addition, our treatments are short and won’t take up much of your time. We perform the procedures for both men and women. Not only can you expect long-lasting results, but the majority of our treatments require no recovery downtime. You can get back to doing what you love most.

How is Jawline Contouring Performed?

The steps are different for jawline enhancement vs. jaw augmentation. If you are undergoing a non-surgical treatment, local anesthesia is applied and a small needle is used to perform the necessary injections. You shouldn’t feel any pain and the treatment will only last for minutes.

If you require jawline surgery, we must use general anesthesia instead. Then, we make a small incision inside the mouth, between the gum and cheek, to access your mandible. Using specialized tools, we reshape your jaw, round the corners and alter the size. Once we achieve the desired results, we close the incision with sutures and place a drain tube to prevent fluid accumulation.

After jawline surgery, you will have a different recovery process than the patient who opted for chin augmentation filler. You can expect:

  • Monitoring for up to a few days
  • Soft diets during the first two weeks
  • Follow-up appointment with the doctor to remove the drain tube and evaluate results
  • Pain medication prescription if you encounter discomfort during the first few days
  • Reduction in strenuous physical activity until healing is complete

Possible Risks and Complications

There are virtually no risks if you are having a non-surgical jaw contouring. On the other hand, any surgical procedure carries some risk to the patient. If you undergo surgical jawline contouring, you face a risk of having a reaction to the anesthesia. It’s also possible to develop an infection during the first few days after a procedure.

For the first few days, expect to feel some pain. You may also see some bruising or swelling around the area. At first, it might appear that the changes are not symmetrical or that one side appears larger than the other. This is typically normal and nothing to worry about. There will be times that another procedure needs to be performed to finalize the adjustments.

It’s not uncommon to experience some bleeding. In rare cases, you might also have a blood clot. Thankfully, the drain tube helps avoid this complication.

In extreme cases, facial nerves could become damaged or injured. This occurs most frequently when the incision is made outside of the mouth. While this is rare, it could lead to numbness of the jaw or cause a form of paralysis. Choosing a qualified professional to perform your surgical jawline contouring helps to reduce many of these risks.

Does it Hurt?

Having a chin filler injected into your face does not cause discomfort. We use a fine needle and apply local anesthesia. If you are having surgical jaw contouring, you can expect to experience some pain after the procedure. We work with you in any way possible to decrease the discomfort and will offer you a prescription for some pain medication to get you through the first few days.

How Many Injections Do You Need?

The use of jawline fillers offers a great benefit to most patients, but there’s no one size fits all treatment plan. Instead, we must take several things into account before determining how many injections you will require. We start by looking at the enhancement you hope to gain. If you only want a slight change, you will need fewer injections than someone looking to make a vast improvement.

In addition, your age plays a factor. In your mid-30s, you begin to lose about 1cc of volume to your face per year. To counteract this, patients often require more filler for each decade of life. We also examine your lifestyle choices to determine how much treatment you will need. Patients with excessive sun exposure, a sedentary lifestyle or those who smoke might require more injections.

Are the Results Permanent?

Surgical jaw contouring offers permanent results that will give you years of enjoyment. On the other hand, some of our non-surgical treatments might require touch-ups over the years. Talk to our team about the goals you have in mind so we can help you map out a treatment plan that fits your desires.

Jawline Contouring vs. Jaw Surgery

Using a jawline filler to promote contouring is the simplest solution available. We have a variety of substances we can use to add shape to your jawline. If you require jaw slimming or extensive reshaping, you will likely need surgery to correct the situation.

We have options to slim, contour, reshape and enhance the jaw. Talk to us about which treatment options suit your needs the best.
